Playwrights Horizons, Women’s Project and La Jolla Playhouse present “Milk Like Sugar,” a new play by Kristen Greenidge. Featuring Tony Award winner Tonya Pinkins (Caroline, or Change; Jelly’s Last Jam), the off-Broadway play follows Annie, a 16-year-old girl with lots of potential with nowhere to put it.
Annie had a choice to make: should she honor the pregnancy pact she’s made with her friends, or find the path to a brighter future? In this searing, sharply observant new play, Greenidge finds savage humor and gritty poetry in one inner-city girl’s struggle to carve out a life beyond the only one she knows.
The play also stars: Cherise Boothe (Ruined), Angela Lewis (Inked Baby; Sand), Nikiya Mathis (The Brother/Sister Plays), LeRoy McClain (Cymbeline @ LCT), J. Mallory-McCree (Zooman and the Sign), Adrienne C. Moore (The 24 Hour Plays).
