Who’s our latest one-hit wonder? We’re heading back to the early 2000s yet again to catch up on the singer that shamelessly taught us all how to “Hit ‘Em Up Style.” Here’s the latest on Blu Cantrell.

Then

Blu is most well-known for her debut single, “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!),” from the album So Blu, which was released in 2001. The single reached No. 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the U.S. Mainstream Top 40 charts. It broke the record previously held by Elvis Presley for the No. 1 most added song to the radio.

In 2002, Blu was nominated for two Grammy Awards and an American Music Award due to the single’s success. She also had a cameo in the movie Drumline released that same year.

Two years after her first album, Blu released Bittersweet, releasing “Breathe” featuring Sean Paul. It, too, was nominated for a Grammy Award, and the collaboration with Sean Paul gained much success worldwide. “Breathe” charted in the top ten in the U.S. and on various international charts. In the UK, the single remained in the top spot for several weeks and went on to break the record previously held by Madonna’s song “Lucky Star” for most played single on the radio.

Now

In 2007, Blu starred in a musical play, Gossip, Lies and Secrets, along with LisaRaye McCoy and Kenya Moore. A year later, she appeared on Celebrity Circus, a show where celebrities learned an array of circus tricks and then competed against each other, but she was the first one eliminated from the show.

Blu most recently made headlines in 2014 when she was spotted erratically running through the streets of Santa Monica, California, while accusing someone of giving her “poisonous gas” and trying to kill her. She was hospitalized and held for a psychological evaluation. No other details were released.

Since then, Blu, who is now 40, has intermittently posted to her various social media pages on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
