In the poetic words of Kendrick Lamar, “I pray my d**k get as big as the Eiffel Tower, so I can f**k the world for 72 hours.”
But in all honesty, does he need it to be THAT big to have the gratuitous sex life he so desires?
Penis size is the center of rap-lyric gloating, locker room trash-talk, and lipstick conversations between girlfriends. During a brief, totally unofficial survey of my girls, I asked them what size penis is their ideal length.
Most of them extended their hands in their best shot at a penis guesstimate. I pulled out a ruler and they all unequivocally said between 9 to 10 inches. Considering the average penis size is between 4 and 6.3 inches, either we are all lying, uninformed, or just walking around orgasm-less or unsatisfied.
And yes, that number includes Black men. A study in the Personality and Individual Differences Journal reports that in the U.S., Black men measure on average at 6.44 inches.
So what’s with the overestimation of penis size?
Well, part of it could be on our men. In the same study, men overestimated their penis size by an inch. Black men self-reported that they measure up to almost 8 inches, when in reality they were around 6.9.
Knowing that, when it comes to our candid conversations with our girls, it makes sense that we aim higher versus lower. But this misrepresentation perpetuates the stereotype that bigger is better, which isn’t always true.
According to sex researchers William Masters and Virginia Johnson, the average depth of a vagina ranges from 3.7 to 4.1 inches when aroused – so there isn’t really room for a 9 incher.
And since most of us aren’t out here having orgasms from penetration alone, at least, according to Ian Kerner, author of She Comes First (fittingly), there are definitely other stimulation techniques to look forward to other than penis size.
So, the next time the great dick debate hits your female circle, remember, big enough is most likely better than just…super big.
