31-Year-Old Nigerian Doctor Opens Her Own Emergency Room
Dr. Foyekemi Ikyaator is beyond remarkable. The 31-year-old wife and mother recently opened Life Savers Emergency Room in Houston, TX. The Nigerian native is an alumna of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. In 2012, she completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at the Emory School of Medicine and Public Health, in Atlanta GA. She then moved to Houston TX. where she gained extensive experience working within the St. Luke’s Health System. The goal of Dr. Foye’s hospital was to provide swift and efficient health care for patients as well as a less bureaucratic work environment for medical professionals. Dr. Foyekemi and Life Savers ER invites the city of Houston to attend it’s ribbon cutting ceremony on January 15th where they’ll be free food and free health screenings. {Houston Profile Magazine}
Actress Gets Starbucks To Remove Distasteful African Statue
Thandie Newton (Mission Impossible II) was recently in a London Starbucks when she noticed a statue of a black child holding a basket of coffee beans, dressed in a loin cloth and safari hat. She tweeted out the photo along with the caption, “Seriously?…Happy New Year circa 19th century” to her nearly 30,000 followers which prompted a response from the international coffee house. “@thandienewton we are very concerned to learn of this incident & we can’t apologise [sic] enough,” the company tweeted to the British and Zimbabwean actress. The story went viral and appeared on Entertainment Tonight where the company provided a formal statement, “…We aim to provide an inclusive environment for all customers and communities in which we serve, and we are working with our partners (employees) to avoid similar incidents from happening in the future. Jeb Bush Thinks Stronger Marriages Would Replace The Need For Welfare
If elected President, Jeb Bush will focus his attention not on terrorism, immigration or education, he wants to end the war on welfare. According to an outline provided by his campaign, the Republican presidential candidate would end the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP); Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). He would place strict time limits on “Right to Rise Grants” which would require able body individuals to work in order to receive funds that would be distributed by the states. Bush would encourage states to “promote parenthood and successful marriages as the most reliable route to family stability and resources.” His welfare reform policy also includes cracking down on the child support enforcement system and imposing tougher regulations to collect payments. {Bloomberg Politics}
Hillary Clinton Blasts Maine Governor For Racist Remarks
While addressing the heroin epidemic in Maine, Governor Paul LePage said the following at a town hall meeting, “Now the traffickers … These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty, these types of guys. They come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, and they go back home. He also added, “Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue that we’ve got to deal with down the road.” According to the governor’s communications director, he was not attempting to refer to African American’s with his statement. Hillary Clinton, has since expressed her disappointment in the governor’s remarks, “Governor LePage’s comments tonight are not only offensive and hurtful but they try to cover up the very real epidemic of drug abuse facing people in his state and across the country.” LePage has endorsed New Jersey Gov. RZA Of The Wu-Tang Clan Compares #BlackLivesMatter To Cows And Veganism
In the early ’90s, the genre of “gangsta rap” typically addressed the black male’s plight against police brutality. Public Enemy, N.W.A and Wu-Tang Clan were amongst the groups who’s songs and lyrics albeit profane and provocative were meant to inspire change. One of the founding members of the Wu-Tang Clan, RZA recently shared some contradicting views on the social justice movement, Black Lives Matters. “All lives matter” he repeatedly said in an interview “I stopped eating meat because their lives matter to me. I don’t think it’s necessary for us to grow a cow to kill it.” In 2014, his group reunited to address police brutality with the song “A Better Tomorrow” which featured the verse, “We want justice, police supposed to protect and serve. And then they shoot us down like wild animals.” The 46-year-old who’s parlayed his rap success into acting and directing believes there would be less police brutality if young black males would just, “button up your shirt. Clean up.” He added that when males dress a certain way, they’re more like to “invoke a fear into a white officer…” {Bloomberg Politics}
