Wasn’t it just last month that two convicted killers in upstate New York escaped from prison? One died and the other was re-captured, but it does make one wonder in general how easy it is to escape from a prison. In the latest prison escape, Joaquin ‘El Chapo’ Guzman escaped from a Mexican prison on Saturday, according to a CNN report. Guards were doing a regular check at the prison when they noticed Guzman was missing. From the looks of it, Guzman used a hole in his prison cell to escape; a hole that apparently led to a lighted tunnel that was a mile long!

One has to wonder how on earth a prisoner could create a hole to a mile-long a tunnel mile without guards being aware! Guzman is characterized by the U.S. Justice Department as one of the most powerful and relentless known drug lords in the entire world, and this is not the first time he has escaped from prison. CNN reported that he escaped from a Mexican prison in 2001, and it wasn’t until 13 years later – February of 2014 – that he was caught and put in prison. Officials in Mexico are on the manhunt for him and have closed the closest airport to the prison just in case he tries to leave the country. Let’s hope it doesn’t take another 13 years to get him this time.
