Nearly a year after the fatal accident that killed his close friend James McNair, Tracy Morgan sat down with the Today’s Show Matt Lauer for a very emotional interview.

In the year since the accident, Tracy said he has been down but the support of his family and colleagues have helped lift his spirits.

“The case is settled but the pain is always going to be there for Jimmy Mac. He was a close friend of mine, a comrade in comedy; he was a loving man and he was a warm man and it hurts me to see that he’s gone. That’s it.”

Morgan says he doesn’t remember the accident and his first memory is waking up to his fiancee Megan Wollover and son two weeks later. He also watched the video of the tragic accident on YouTube because he had to know what happened to his friend.

Tracy said he’s taking it one day at a time and thanked the entire staff of the hospital particularly ‘Nurse Jackie’, whom he said always treated him kindly even when he treated her wrong.

“When I first came out the coma, I was a mess. I would curse her out, I would throw things at her and she would always say ‘Everything is going to be alright.’ So one day I went to see Dr. Greenwald because I had been having these dreams about my room that I was in and he said you want to go upstairs and see it and when I got off the elevator I saw all these faces I remembered and when guess who came around the corner? Nurse Jackie and I just grabbed her and I wouldn’t let her go and I told her I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

We’re happy that Tracy is getting better each day. We can’t wait to see Tracy back on the stage but more importantly, we can’t wait to see him healthy.
