Two Teens Shot By Police In Chicago & We Don’t Know How To Feel Anymore
Two Chicago teens were shot by police in two separate cases after officers say the teens pointed their guns at them and refused to put them down.
In the first case, according to reports, gang enforcement officers responded to a complaint of armed men on a west side block in Chicago. Officers report that when they arrived to the scene to try to speak with 19-year-old Roshad McIntosh, he ran into a passageway and drew a handgun from his waist. The teen ran up a staircase in the building and when an officer told McIntosh to drop his handgun, he allegedly aimed it in the officer’s direction instead. And, the officer shot him.
“If you point a gun at a policeman,” said police union spokesman Pat Camden, “I guarantee you will get shot.” Police say a gun was retrieved on the scene.

McIntosh was pronounced dead on August 24, but his family and friends don’t believe any of the police reports. Residents of McIntosh’s town of Lawndale took to the streets to protest, saying that McIntosh didn’t carry a gun and surrendered to police before he was shot. “The police pulled up and jumped out,” said a Lawndale resident. “They put guns on everybody out there, (yelling) ‘Get on the ground, get on the ground.’ I couldn’t see what was happening in the back [of the house]. They say he had a gun, I don’t think so.”
In the second case, police responded to a gunfire exchange on the South Side and, when they arrived, police say a 17-year-old teen aimed his gun at them. After he refused to put down his gun, they shot him as well. The suspect’s name was not released by police. The Independent Police Review Authority (IPRA) is investigating both cases and have already starting the process of interviewing witness officers. They plan to interview the officers involved in the shootings within the next few days.
Considering how much police tension has increased because of the Mike Brown case in Ferguson, it’s only a matter of time before more people will be demanding answers. We can only hope the truth is revealed.
