President Obama Volunteers To Return 5 Percent Of His Salary

President Barack Obama is giving back, literally. According to the Associated Press, the Commander-in Chief has decided to share some of the budget pain that many Americans are feeling by returning 5 percent of his $400,000 annual salary back to the Treasury Department.

The President’s decision is a sign of unity; demonstrating he is also willing to sacrifice just like the hundreds of thousands of workers who have been unemployed or forced to take unpaid leaves, known as furloughs, due to Congress’ government-wide spending cuts.

“The salary for the President, as with Members of Congress, is set by law and cannot be changed. However, the President has decided that to share in the sacrifice being made by public servants across the federal government that are affected by the sequester, he will contribute a portion of his salary back to the Treasury,” a White House official said.

Being this month, Obama plans to write out a check for approximetly $1,667 per month.
