On ABC “This Week” George Stephanopoulos invited Ann Coulter-the queen of controversy– to delve into the comment she made in her book that pretty much claimed that Black people are the only people that have Civil Rights.

Here’s the actual quote of what Coulter said:

“Various groups [including] gay rights groups, those defending immigrants and feminists have commandeered the black civil rights experience.”

While Coulter is known for her offensive and often times taboo comments, her latest rant just teeter-tottered on…crazy. Maybe I need a refresher on what Civil Rights actually mean. Learn with me.

According to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, Civil Rights are:

Personal rights guaranteed and protected by the U.S. Constitution and federal laws enacted by Congress, such as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. Civil rights include, freedom of speech, the right to vote, due process of law, equal protection of the laws and protection from unlawful discrimination.

Doesn’t sound like this is only limited to Black people. Coulter complained that Civil Rights are only for blacks and that the U.S. has a “legacy of slavery and Jim Crow laws.” She doesn’t believe that immigrants have Civil Rights. Coulter goes on to say, “What have we done to the immigrants? We owe black people something. We have a legacy of slavery. Immigrants haven ‘t even been in this country.”

She can’t be serious. Coulter may think she’s in support of Black people with her comments, but all she’s doing is allowing her ignorance to show.
