Maya Angelou is surprised and both disappointed in rapper Common for using the “N-Word” in a song in which he also uses her poetry. The world renown and influential Pulitzer Prize-nominee feels very strongly about the usage of the negative term and has labeled it “vulgar and dangerous.”

“I had no idea that Common was using the piece we had done together on [a track] in which he and has labeled it also used the ‘N’ word numerous times. I’m surprised and disappointed. I don’t know why he chose to do that. I had never heard him use that [word] before. I admired him so because he wasn’t singing the line of least resistance.” said Angelou to The New York Post.
