Gospel music trailblazer Andraé Crouch, who brought both Christian and secular music together for over 50 years, died Thursday afternoon.  USA Today reports on Jan. 3, Crouch was rushed to the Northridge Hospital Medical Center in metro Los Angeles area after suffering a heart attack. Crouch was 72. Earlier in the week, Crouch’s sister Sandra released a statement on her brother’s official Facebook page about his health issues and asked for continued prayers and support. According to Sandra:

On Saturday, January 3rd, my brother, Andrae Crouch, was taken to the hospital so that medical staff could more directly address some serious health complications that had arisen. At this time, Andrae is being attended to by a medical team, and we are so grateful for their wonderful care.

We are also so grateful for the many thousands of people around the world who are praying for Andrae right now. We ask for your continued prayer – that Andrae will respond positively to the medical attention being given to him at this time, and that he will fully recover from this current health complication.

Thank you so much…Sandra Crouch

A few days later on Jan. 5, Crouch’s prognosis appeared to have changed for the better when Sandra updated his health status and stated:

Andraé Crouch, who was hospitalized on January 3rd, has had some positive response to the medical attention that has been given to him. The medical team has given some encouraging news and we are so grateful for the many thousands of people who are praying on behalf of my brother.

With the continued medical attention and your prayers, we are trusting the Lord for a full recovery.

Crouch,  served as pastor with his sister at the New Christ Memorial Church in San Fernando, Ca, which their parents founded. In December he was hospitalized after suffering a bout with pneumonia and congestive heart failure prompting him to cancel his “Let The Church Say Amen Celebration Tour” slated to start Dec. 9 in Philadelphia.
