“VH1 Divas” will celebrate soul music with performances from Mary J. Blige, Jennifer Hudson, Jill Scott, Florence + The Machine, Kelly Clarkson and Jessie J. The show will pay tribute to the cities where soul gave birth to music’s most powerful classics and inspired today’s divas. Each singer will pay homage to these cities and soul music’s timeless classics at New York City’s Hammerstein Ballroom.
Not only will each act perform their own soul-inspired songs, but also some of the greatest classics that have shaped a genre. Their performances will be accompanied by The Roots, who serve as the house band. Their member ?uestlove will pull a double duty as a musical director.

As always, the show will benefit VH1’s “Save The Music Foundation” and its programs to restore music education in public schools.
The special will air Monday, December 19 at 9 PM/8c on VH1
