1. Behold, A Lady
How gorgeous is Gladys Knight!? The iconic singer jetted to Bentonville, AR for TV One and Walmart’s NAACP Image Awards viewing party and arrived on the blue carpet in a striking Tadashi Shoji gown. If it looks familiar your eyes aren’t playing tricks on you; the singer wore the same dress on the cover of her latest album “Another Journey.”
2. Move It! Patti’s Coming Through
Living legend Patti LaBelle strutted her stuff on the “blue” carpet while helping to tape a commercial alongside Gladys Knight, Laz Alonso and TV One Host Tai Beauchamp, that aired during the live awards event.
3. Laz Alonso On The Importance Of These Awards
Alonso, who won a 2011 Image award for “Jumping The Broom” acknowledged the importance of the NAACP’s work in his field: “It wasn’t long ago that they were speaking out on behalf of having more faces of color on TV, and as a result Hollywood listened and a lot of us got some great opportunities,” he said. “So I’m a big fan of the NAACP and anything I can do to keep supporting their mission and work, I’m there.”
While there was no shortage of dapper brothers in attendance for the evening’s festivities, NFL player George Wilson brought the eye candy to the blue carpet looking fresh in all-black suiting.
5. Beautiful People
Now this is how you do a viewing party! TV One & Walmart rolled out the blue carpet and gave guests the star treatment for the evening and the audience showed up dressed to the nines in their black tie ensembles.
6. Hostess With The Mostess
TV One hot Tai Beauchamp hosted the viewing party festivities and also lead a silent auction.
7. Chic Eats
Guests enjoyed a full buffet dinner, hors d’oeuvres and yummy desserts during the evening.
8. Spare Shoes
You see those pairs of shoes lined up on the piano? Those were Patti LaBelle’s back up pair of heels and flats that her long time piano player had on deck for that inevitable moment where she felt moved to kick off her heels into the audience! Nobody does it like Patti!
9. Can You Keep Up?
When Patti called for a few good men to help her dance on the stage, this one *took* the stage with a hilarious dance routine that added an extra layer of entertainment to Patti’s set.
10. Gladys Knight
Knight closed out the viewing party program with a beautiful tribute to singers that came before her, including her unofficial “god mom” Ella Fitzgerald, and even more of her own greatest hits.
11. Clap For ‘Em!
Between the performances and the cuts back to the winners at the main event the night was full of applause in recognition of all our great entertainers who deserve to be celebrated!
12. After The Party Is The “After glow”
Just when we thought the awards in LA and Gladys and Patti preforming at the viewing party were enough action, African Pride Hair Care kept things “turnt up” with a swanky “after glow” after party featuring even more special guests!
13. Fly Girl
Elle Varner pulled out her acoustic guitar and eased into the after party set with her song “So Fly.” “I decided I’m the definition of fly/And if you want to know why/I know what money can’t buy,” she sung with her glasses on, perhaps to drive the point home of being beautiful on her own terms.
14. Glammed Up
The singer did polish up nicely in a BCBG dress and Christian Louboutin heels, don’t you think?
15. Bar Break!
“Can I get a refill!?” Elle Varner belted to the room while performing one of her biggest hits (which reminded folks it was time to re-up).
16. Go DJ!
DJ D-Nice let’s Elle Varner hop on the 1s and 2s, but the New York City based party start definitely held his own too and kept the audience partying through the early hours of the morning.
