1. Met Gala
Instagram gave us a pass behind-the-scenes at fashion’s most glamorous night. Seeing stars like Beyonce and Solange mingle with the likes of Lupita Nyong’o had everyone double tapping, and stalking the #MetGala2014 hashtag.
2. North West
Kim Kardashian really broke the internet when she posted this adorable picture of North West in a fur coat and mouse slippers. It’s been regrammed more times than we could ever count, with a chorus of “Aww’s” in every single comment section.
3. Solange Wedding
Solange’s wedding pics went viral in record time. Once Vogue debuted the stunning photos, shot by Rog Walker, they immediately took over our timelines — not that we’re complaining. In fact, we were happy to see every single aspect of Solo’s wedding from the ceremony to her dance with Julez at the afterparty. And people are still recreating her wedding photo today.
4. Rihanna at the White House
When BadGalRiRi is let loose at the White House, you know it’s going to be entertaining to say the least. Rihanna used her visit as a chance to recreate “Scandal.” Here, she’s “calling Fitz” and in an epic shot at the White House Press Room, she pretended to be Abby. She gets points for being silly, loving “Scandal,” and looking phenomenal in Stella Jean.
5. Beyonce and Blue on Halloween
Our modern-day icon (Beyonce) dressed up as a legendary pop icon (Miss Jackson, if you’re nasty) was more than our hearts can stand. Add Blue Ivy in full-on Michael Jackson gear and we couldn’t regram fast enough. The Jacksons would be proud.
6. Riccardo Tisci’s Birthday Party
Riccardo Tisci knew his party would be a social media hit, as evidenced by his hashtag: #Ibiza74 (for the party’s location and the year of his birth). And take over Instagram, it did. Diddy, Kim Kardashian and Naomi Campbell were only some of the A-listers that attended, and posted every moment on Instagram. Naturally.
7. Lupita Nyong’o Front Row with Anna Wintour
By the time Fashion Week rolled around, Lupita Nyong’o was well on her way to becoming a style icon but this sealed the deal: the starlet was spotted front row at Calvin Klein seated next to the inimitable Anna Wintour. We knew her Vogue cover was imminent. Where’s the love button?
8. Chanel Protest
Most fashion enthusiasts weren’t lucky enough to be at the Chanel protest, or Spring 2015 show, but we sure felt like we were there. The models had barely left the runway before pictures and videos of their demonstration hit the ‘Gram — just like Karl Lagerfeld intended.
9. Balmain Army
Balmain’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, is so social media savvy he created his own hashtag #BalmainArmy to coincide with pictures of models and celebrities wearing his designs. Needless to say, the hashtag is now legendary: his W Magazine spread with Rihanna, Iman and Naomi Campbell, and his latest campaign featuring Kim and Kanye, both made their debut on Instagram.
10. Alexander Wang for H&M Party
The details for the Alexander Wang for H&M party were kept under wraps, which only made people more hungry for information about the secret soiree. When it finally went down, we learned it was worth the wait: Wang planned a surprise performance by none other than Missy Elliot. Even Solange was excited, and couldn’t wait to post it on her Instagram page. Well-played, Mr. Wang.
