1. Do You Know When It’s A Date?

USA Today recently released a survey conducted by two leading dating websites, about how to tell when you are on a date or if you are just hanging out. Who knew there was such a discrepancy between the two? The survey spoke to over 2,647 singles, aged 18-59, and the confusion over the ‘friend-zone’ was evident! I did some soul searching and realized that I was also suffering from the uncertainty of dating!

So I consulted TheDatingCouncil.com Coaches & Relationship Experts, Jodie & Diane Fanelli to help me figure it out.

What they gave me were 13 sure-fire signs that it is not a date. Check out these tips and make sure your next date is a date.

3. If “Your Date” Has Better Places To Be…

Your date makes it clear that your time is scheduled sharply. For instance, they only have a half hour and then they are expected at a dinner engagement with “other” company following your meeting. There is no mention of making it up to you with a lengthier date.

4. If “Your Date” Talks About Their Ex…

Your date encourages you to rekindle things with an ex. Again, if he or she wanted to date you, they wouldn’t be thinking of tossing you back to a former flame.

5. If “Your Date” Gives You Pointers…

Your date, that you met online, starts giving you pointers on how to spruce up your online profile. If he or she wanted to date you, they wouldn’t want to make your more appealing to others.

6. If “Your Date” Wants To Hook You Up…

Your date mentions that he or she could see you hitting it off with someone they know.

7. If “Your Date” Invites Other People…

Friends or work associates arrive during your “date.” This could potentially be a sign that they want to keep the tone of the evening platonic by interrupting the one-on-one time. If they wanted to date you and increase romantic connection, they would make sure to maximize the time gazing into one another’s eyes.

8. If “Your Date” Shakes Your Hand…

You depart or greet with a friendly handshake. Awkwardness of the first date aside, this is a neutral /businesslike way of greeting someone.

9. If “Your Date” Suggests A 2nd Meeting…

Discussions of a second meeting involve a platonic sounding group activity. Perhaps something like a networking event.

10. If “Your Date” Says Goodbye Like This…

No offer to see you to a taxi, your car, or front door.

11. If “Your Date” Arrives Looking Like A Pauper, Not A Prince…

Your date appears to have not put any effort into his or her attire. Meanwhile you have dressed to the nines! They may not be putting the same weight onto the occasion of your meeting as you are.

12. If “Your Date” Flirts With Your Waitress…

You notice a flirtation with the “date” venue’s staff.

13. If “Your Date” Steals Too Many Moments On Their Phone…

You come back from the restroom and notice your date flipping through photos or responding to emails on a dating app.

14. If “Your Date” Doesn’t Flirt…

Your date steers clear of any flirtation.
