The release of Halle Berry’s new film “Frankie & Alice” is being pushed up in order to be qualified for awards season. The film’s regular theatrical release is set for February 4, 2011, but will debut in New York and Los Angeles on December 17, 2010 in time to be nominated.

“Frankie & Alice,” for which Berry also served as a producer, is a moving psychological drama based on the harrowing true story of Frankie Murdoch (Berry), a woman suffering with multiple personality disorder in early 1970s Los Angeles.

Berry has shepherded this as a “passion project” and feels this is her best work since Oscar-winning role in “Monster Ball” — hence the awards push.

It has been reported that 10,000 DVDs will go out to the entire Academy, critics groups, SAG Nominating Committee and others in advance.

“Bringing this story to the big screen has been a challenging, yet very satisfying, filmmaking experience,” Berry says. “Her struggles with mental illness came at a time when the medical community and the public were still grappling with the veracity of multiple personality disorder, and I approached this role with feelings of humility, yet great responsibility.”
