A Tulsa, Oklahoma man who was fatally wounded by an officer during a traffic stop reportedly had the hallucinogenic drug PCP in his system during the incident, NBC News reports.

The toxicology report released by Oklahoma Chief Medical Examiner’s Office indicates that Terence Crutcher had traces of Phencyclidine and a similar hallucinogenic drug, Tenocyclidine, in his system.

On September 16th, police responded to a call of a broken down vehicle on the highway. When they arrived, several officers approached Crutcher, whose hands were up beside the car. Officer Betty Shelby firing a single shot, killing the father of four.

Betty Shelby was charged with first-degree manslaughter. Her lawyer told NBC that Crutcher ignored her commands and appeared to be ‘under the influence of drugs.’

The prosecution against Shelby says she ‘reacted unreasonably’ and became ’emotionally involved to the point that she overreacted.’

Skeptics took to Twitter to express that these findings seemed ‘convenient.’ They also stood by the fact that drug intoxication should not equal a death sentence:

It is unclear how these new findings will effect the outcome of the upcoming trial.
