Dr. Conrad Murray will always be linked to the death of pop icon Michael Jackson. And it seems as if that’s an association he’s more than comfortable with.

To promote his new tell-all memoir, This is It!: The Secret Lives of Dr. Conrad Murray and Michael Jackson, he stopped by the Tom Joyner Morning Show, where he opened up about his decision to write the book, his financial woes, and much more.

Check out some of the highlights of the interview below:

Is he still a doctor?:

“I will always be a doctor. No one can take that away from me. I’m able to reinstate my license if I want to. The question is do what I want to. I am licensed internationally, but if I want to get reinstated in Texas, Nevada, and California, I can.”

How he has been living without work:

“I lived on whatever savings I had. My family and friends have done a lot to help me out and kept me going … I’m OK.”

On why he chose to reveal some of MJ’s secrets:

“It is my history. It goes back to the time I was born. It shows how my life and Michael Jackson’s life became entangled.”

On the Jackson family:

“The Jacksons in particular have had a very rancid relationship with their son and their brother. They had been suing him internally, left and right, taking all kinds of money and doing bad things to him.”
