Danielle Brooks may be a beloved star on Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black and a Tony-nominated actress, but that still doesn’t stop folks from trying it with her. According to the Color Purple singer’s Twitter, she was recently congratulated by an airport ticket agent for riding first class.

The actress was on her way to Los Angeles to appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

The 26-year-old Juilliard grad Tweeted:

Sigh. Who really says that to passengers?

Of course Brooks’ supporters had her back and were not here for any of this:

Why couldn’t the agent just have said, “Have a nice flight, Ms. Brooks?” Wouldn’t that have been more appropriate as opposed to reminding someone how “lucky” they are to ride up front and get free cocktails?

Granted, we don’t know what the agent’s true intentions were with their comment, but what we do know is that as Black women we often have to encounter the misconception that we cannot afford certain things and the condescension that comes along with that. (Remember when a Hermes store clerk wouldn’t let Oprah Winfrey buy the bag she asked for?)

Incidents like this can be truly exhausting. We feel your annoyance, Danielle girl. We feel you.
