Less than a year ago, the world was excitedly anticipating the return of Janet Jackson. After a nearly 10 year hiatus, Janet…Miss Jackson if you’re nasty…began teasing new music on social media and she eventually released her eleventh studio album, Unbreakable.
The pop icon kicked off the U.S leg of her Unbreakable World Tour in August 2015. She began postponing shows in December and in January, she clapped back at rumors that her cancellation was due to having throat cancer.
It’s now been confirmed that Janet is scraping the European leg of her tour nearly five months before the scheduled end date. According to reports, the singer isn’t ill, she simply isn’t selling tickets.
“She was about to flop, badly” said a source to Page Six. Here are additional details about Janet’s change in plans.
When an artist cancels an entire leg or postpones pieces of the tour, the real reason is because they’re not selling,” the source said, adding, “It’s better to cancel than play a room that’s half-filled, especially if you’re Janet Jackson.”
But a source at Janet’s tour producers Live Nation insisted to Page Six that sales in Europe were “decent.” “We were a month out and still very positive about the shows, but it didn’t make any sense to keep all the dates. She’s very ambitious right now. And when you’re that ambitious, there becomes conflict.”
The 49-year-old is supposedly going to take time off to focus on developing new artists under her new record label, Rhythm Nation, a partnership with BMG Rights Management.
Meanwhile, Beyonce‘s “Formation” tour has had no problem selling out from Ireland to Germany. And we’ve only heard one new song from Queen Bey.
Beauties, do you think Janet can still revive her career? Should Janet take a year off, wait until Bey is done with her tour and try again? Let us know!
