Director Ryan Coogler is definitely a testament to letting your work speak for it’s self. He was previously in talks to direct the 2017 film, Black Panther but passed on the project to complete the Michael B. Jordan boxing film, Creed.

Ava DuVernay was also up for the job but passed because she and the studio weren’t on the same page with the direction of the film. The Black Panther project has been idle until now!

Following the box office success of Creed which made over $40 million opening weekend and instantly became the most successful film in the Rocky franchise; Ryan Coogler is in demand!

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel Studio’s wasted no time calling Coogler and he’s currently in negotiations to direct the first black superhero film with Chadwick Boseman as the lead.

In the movie, Boseman will play T’Challa, the head of the fictional African nation of Wakanda. The Black Panther will make it’s big screen debut in the May 2016 film Captain America: Civil War.
