This instant classic directed by Rick Famuyiwa had a gorgeous cast with A-listers and fresh faces alike including Chanel Iman, A$AP Rocky, Zoe Kravitz and Shameik Moore. Forest Whitaker and Pharrell Williams had their hands in this masterpiece, too, as both were producers on the film.

Dope centers around Malcolm, a geeky, working class kid inching his way towards high school graduation. Malcolm goes through the adventure of a lifetime when he goes to an underground L.A. party to score points with the in crowd and get closer to Nakia (Kravitz), the girl of his dreams.

After Malcolm finds himself in a world of trouble from mixing with Dom (A$AP Rocky), Nakia’s boyfriend, Malcolm must outsmart local crooks to save himself and his friends while securing his chances of getting into Harvard. Along the journey, Malcolm finds himself and slowly makes his way into Nakia’s heart.

There’s lots of reasons to watch this quirky, 90s inspired coming-of-age film. Chanel looks absolutely gorgeous as the temptress that gets in Malcolm’s way. Malcolm’s sidekicks, Jaleel (Quincy Brown) and Diggy (Kiersey Clemons), are charming and uber lovable. Zoe channels her mom, Lisa Bonet, throughout the entire film. Best of all, Famuyiwa masterfully juggles suspense and humor to keep the audience glued to the screen from the first scene to the closing credits.
