There are two major moments in this episode of Empire. First, we’re all waiting with bated breath for the battle of the century—Freda Gatz vs. Hakeem for the Lyon name. And second, Boo Boo Kitty is knocked up. And yup, Hakeem is the pappy!
Anika freaks out about it, and even contemplates killing herself, but she has a moment where she summons the brass ovaries she needs to tell Hakeem what’s up…so we thought. Her plans get derailed when Hakeem tells her that he’s in love with Laura. Boo Boo Kitty just can’t seem to catch a break.
In the episode’s other main event, Freda Gatz and Hakeem finally decide to
make Lucious love them battle. Now, we all probably figured that Hakeem would get slaughtered. Think about it, battle-rapping is Freda Gatz’s thing, while Hakeem is basically Little Diddy. However, that latter bit is actually what works to his advantage. Keemie’s big bro Jamal gives him good advice, which is to basically use his strengths to win. During the battle, it seems like the win could go either way, but Hakeem has a moment where he starts actually dancing like Diddy, and then he smashes his name up, which is strung up in lights, and then he announces that he’s dropping Lyon from his name moving forward. See what he did? He claimed power and ultimately the battle win by making a spectacle, and the crowd ate it up. Well-played Hakeem! In this moment, Lucious has a flashback to when he was a homeless child on the streets (presumably after his mom’s death) where he looks up at a lion stature and realizes that he is as strong as a lion, and that’s when you get it.
Fastforward to the end of the episode…
After celebrating his battle win, Hakeem walks Lauren, “the love of his life,” out to her car service, and Boo Boo Kitty is the driver. She found a blonde wig to “disguise” her self, and pretends to be the driver for Hakeem’s new boo. But what the hell is she up to?
It looks like Lauren is still alive in the preview for next week, but we’re all dying to know what’s going to happen. Perhaps Boo Boo Kitty will take a page from Cookie’s playbook and have a nice heart to heart with Lauren.
We’ll find out soon enough.
