It was quite an eventful week on television with Season 3 of Being Mary Jane premiering on Tuesday followed by new episodes of Empire, Scandal and finally How To Get Away with Murder. Along with the jaw-dropping plot lines, viewers obsessively tune in to see what their favorite characters are wearing from Cookie’s flashy animal prints to Olivia Pope’s sharp and structured coats. Here are some of the fashionable highlights from this week on TV.
The first episodes of Being Mary Jane Season 3 find the news anchor recovering from a major car accident and desperately trying to put the pieces of her life back together after being betrayed by her former boyfriend and best friend. Oh, and being extorted by the woman she hit with her car, played brilliantly by Loretta Devine.
Instead of power-dressing like usual, we find Mary Jane in flowy casual tops like this burgundy flutter shoulder blouse to reflect her vulnerability. She likewise trades in her perfectly-coiffed shoulder-length blowout for relaxed updos and headscarves. Nail her laidback look with a similar blouse.
Like Mary Jane, Empire’s Cookie is under attack. But instead of a car accident victim, Cookie must contend with her record label rival, Lucious, as well as unknown criminals looking to extort her. True to form, Cookie takes it all in stride, looking polished and composed in her high fashion wardrobe.
She attended Andre’s baptism in an off shoulder dress from Dior’s Fall 2014 collection. Get her look with this affordable option.
Tiana was back in her element and on top of her game until she becomes the victim of a robbery in front of the record label’s headquarters. Before that traumatic event, Tiana sizzled at a photo shoot in an Agent Provocateur swimsuit and Aldo pumps. Get her look on a budget with this one-piece suit.
Another powerful protagonist who was surprisingly out of her element this week? Scandal‘s Olivia Pope. Embroiled in controversy surrounding her affair with the President, Olivia finds herself in need of fixing by way of a wardrobe downgrade. Quinn is sent to “The Galleria” to make-under Ms. Pope and what materializes is an outfit from real-life mass retailer, Target.
Olivia makes a rare trip to the grocery store wearing a Mossimo Supply Co. gray zippered jacket, cream sweater and navy printed scarf. Get her exact coat.
For her info-sharing romp with Fitz, she donned a Natori white and black lace chemise. Get it here.
How To Get Away With Murder showed one of its most riveting episodes yet. Michaela finally learned the true identity of “Eggs 911” and is left reeling from boyfriend Levi’s betrayal. This is a decidedly vulnerable moment from the tough-as-nails law student: at one point, Connor even holds his arm up to protect Michaela from Levi’s advances. Perhaps to symbolize her naiveté and vulnerability, Michaela is dressed demurely in a Diane von Furstenberg wrap cardigan and alice + olivia printed skirt.
That’s it for this week. Who had your favorite look?
