In yet another heartbreaking mass shooting update in this country, multiple people are reportedly dead and 20 have been injured following a shooting at an Oregon community college.

Police responded to the reported shooting at Umpqua Community College Thursday afternoon, NBC reports.

As this story went to press, the shooter at the Roseburg college was reportedly in custody, according to the news site, who reportedly heard the detail via a police scanner. According to CNN, the alleged shooter is thought to be in his late 20s. Like so many mass shooters before him, he reportedly let his intentions be known the night before, when he posted about it online.

ATF agents were also reportedly on scene as officials searched for explosives, firearm casings and additional information.

A local CNN military analyst in the area said the shooting was “so out of character for this whole area.” As heartbreaking as it must be for the victims and local residents, the reality is increasingly showing that there are very few places immune to a mass shooting in this country.

Established in 1964, Umpqua Community College has roughly 3,300 full-time students and more than 16,000 part-time students. Situated on a beautiful landscape in Oregon, the school prides itself on its “peaceful, safe atmosphere.”

We will continue to keep you updated as new developments come in. We send our thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
