Obama Rings In Labor Day By Extending Paid Sick Leave

On Monday, President Barack Obama spoke before a union rally and breakfast in Boston to announce his executive order facing federal contractors to pay employees while on leave. The measure includes time off to care for sick relatives; it has yet to be said how much federal contractors would have to pay to follow suit with the order but the Labor Department says costs would be counteracted by better employee retention. Obama has signed other executive orders to improve the workplace including barring employers for discrimination against employees for their gender or sexual orientation, increasing minimum wage and making contractors eligible for overtime.
