Just last week we reported that Naomi Campbell had joined the cast of American Horror Story: Hotel, but this time around, the news we have isn’t good. The famed supermodel was given a six months suspended prison sentence by a Sicilian court, according to reports.
Campbell was convicted of assault for allegedly scratching a paparazzo’s eye out in August 2009, but her lawyer plans to appeal.
“We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident,” attorney Guido Carlo Alleva said in a statement obtained by E! News. “Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time.”
The incident occurred when the photographer, Gaetano Di Giovanni, was snapping photos of the model with her then-boyfriend, Russian billionaire Vladimir Doronin, as they stepped off their boat in the Sicilian town of Lipari. Di Giovanni continued taking photos of f the couple as they did some sight-seeing, and eventually Campbell hit him with her purse. The bag is what scratched the man’s eye, causing him to seek medical treatment and take three days off from work.
“I had just started taking some shots of her and I did not expect such a violent reaction,” he said in 2013, after Campbell was ordered to stand trial in Italy, according to the Telegraph.
This isn’t Campbell’s first run-in with the law. It’s going to be interesting to see how this appeal situation plays out. You know Naomi Campbell was not built for jail, even if it is just six months. However, perhaps she still hasn’t learned her lesson about anger management.
