Lauryn Hill, welcomed to the stage by an adoring audience of fans, peers and fellow musicians, thanked her loved ones as she accepted the 2015 Golden Note Award at the 28th annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Awards. While finding the soft spot on her stool, she prepared her ensemble band by making hand gestures with her fists. She signaled the sound engineer to turn up her music and smiled before beginning her set. Draped in vibrant green fabric that flowed when she moved, complimented by a pair of sky-high sparkly shoes, Lauryn seemed better than ever.
She began with a ballad, her guitar cradled in her lap until the familiar lyrics of Ex-Factor captured the crowd’s full attention.
On the ASCAP red carpet, celebs like Jazmine Sullivan and Melanie Fiona remembered their more stand-out Lauryn Hill moments, which included nods to her iconic work in Sister Act and her trendsetting/ cookie-cutter mold breaking fashion.
Lauryn, unlike previous headlines, was prompt and sounded terrific as she journeyed through classics like “Doo Wop” and “Lost Ones.”
Lauryn ended her stellar performance thanking her fans and incredible band before disappearing backstage. Gosh, we just want to be her friend. And celebs love her too! Find out their favorite Lauryn Hill memory, above.
