The Prancing Elites Get A New Reality Show On Oxygen
‘The Prancing Elites Project’ Brings Gay Southern Dance Culture To Reality TV
Meet The Prancing Elites, the all-Black, gay and gender non-conforming group of dancers who proudly strut their stuff around Alabama. Comprised of Adrian Clemons, Kentrell Collins, Kareem Davis, Jerel Maddox, and Timothy Smith, the “Prancing Elites” set out to “challenge societal norms while overcoming several obstacles” while seeking acceptance in the female dominated dance culture. The boys specialize in a dance called “J-Setting.”
In case this is your first time hearing about J-Setting, it is popular dance phenom among LGBTQ communities. Beyonce used J-Setting choreography in her “Single Ladies” video.
“The Prancing Elites’ positive perseverance through life’s countless hurdles and rejections will tug at the heartstrings of Oxygen’s young, open-minded and diverse audience,” said Rod Aissa, Executive Vice President of Original Programming and Development, Oxygen Media. “With vibrant personalities, an abundance of humor and even more determination, this authentic group holds true to themselves and never stops celebrating who they are.”
“The Prancing Elites project” will ab-so-lu-tely ruffle some feathers and raise dialogue around the way gay Black men are portrayed.
“The Prancing Elites Project” premieres April 22 at 10pm. Watch the trailer and let us know your thoughts about the docu-series when you sound off in the comments section.
