Fallen legend Bill Cosby is apparently preparing for a comeback, but the bigger picture of his attempt may be, does anybody care anymore? He’s just released a 13-second video directed at the fans still standing by his side and in it he says, “Dear Fans: I hope you enjoy my wonderful video message that’s filled with laughter. Hey hey hey, I’m far from finished.”
In using a reference to the his ’70s cartoon Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids (“Hey, hey, hey!”), Cosby is trying to remind us of the “America’s Dad” image that brought him fame. This video is just one of the very few times he’s come out of hiding since the mountain of sexual assaults and rape allegations struck him last year (and still into the new 2015).
The video is just a bit off because while clearly displaying an upbeat attitude, it’s uncomfortable how he’s ignoring the seriousness of having 25+ women come forward with personal stories of abuse from him. Is he ever going to acknowledge them? It’s one thing to be nonchalant about stupid gossip, but for so many women to say you assaulted them and to just be nearly mute feels wrong. We’re always down for a comeback, but we’re not too sure about this one. Are you?
