I’m going to vote tonight.
For the first time since “American Idol’s” debut back in the early 2000s, I’m going to text that 21523 number and show my support for Tyanna Jones — hopeful season 14 winner.
I love a good tear-jerking “American Idol” story, but there’s something about Tyanna that really stuck out to me. It could be that she’s a natural chick with free flowing coily tresses that are blue, or the fact that she’s only 16-years-old and bodied Beyonce’s “Love On Top” during the House Of Blue’s round (I can’t get through the second verse without a respirator)… whichever you choose I want the girl to win.
Tyanna and her family came from humble beginnings. They were homeless and lived on the floor in their Pastor’s church. “We slept on the floor and we all shared one bathroom and we basically washed up with the sink because there was no shower in the church.” she revealed during her audition interview. “It was really hard, it was really difficult.”
Despite the stress, Tyanna’s mother never cried in front of them. Her mother was present during her audition and reassured Tyanna with these words of encouragement, “I want to let you know win or lose, you are amazing and you deserve everything you get.”
Tyanna raised money to make it to the last audition spot in San Fransisco and wowed the judges with her rendition of Little Mix’s “Wings.”
Tyanna is energetic and full of joy unjaded by her personal struggle. And we can’t deny her voice that reminds us of a young Janelle Monae.
Tyanna performs tonight on Idol in the “Top 12 Girls” competition and we’ll be rooting for her! Tune in to FOX to watch her performance. We’re sure you won’t be disappointed.
