Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul is under fire for allegations he made sexist remarks about a female referee. Following the Clippers loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday night, Paul voiced his outrage to reporters after the game surrounding Lauren Holtkamp a first-year referee issuing 5 technical fouls between he and his team mates during the game. At one point in the game, the Clippers were given three in 60 seconds. CP3 expressed his frustration at the post game press conference by stating:
I think we have to show better composure, but at the same time, some of [the technical fouls] were ridiculou. The tech that I get right there was ridiculous. I don’t care what nobody says, I don’t care what she says; that’s terrible. There’s no way that can be a tech. We try to get the ball out fast every time down the court, and when we did that, she said, ‘Uh-uh.’ I said, ‘Why, uh-uh?’ And she gave me a tech.
“That’s ridiculous. If that’s the case, this might not be for her
Paul’s comments were met with mixed reviews on whether or not he was being sexist and wouldn’t disparage Lauren had she been a man.
The NBA slapped Paul with a $25,000 fine insisting it was done not because the remarks were sexist, but due to Paul making a public criticism of an official. Yes, it could be said Paul may have been referring to Lauren being new to the NBA but why not say that? Even while she made calls in Paul’s own comments he was grilling her. It does make you wonder if he feels because she’s a female, Lauren doesn’t belong. Watch Paul’s press conference below.
