Mean Mugging: Kanye West Explains Why He Almost Never Smiles In Public
Kanye West has finally revealed why it is that he always looks angry in public. Supposedly, he’s taking a style cue from the 1800s.
With as much as he has going for himself (newly married, wildly succesful, an adorable baby, etc.), it seems like paparazzi can never catch Kanye cracking a smile. He has plenty to be joyful about and yet that almost never comes across on his face. Why?! It’s one of the universe’s great mysteries.
Well, beauties, wonder about Kanye’s mean mug no more because he has finally explained why he’s always frowned up. Surprisingly, it’s not because the Kardashian machine has sucked all of the joy out of his life!

Yeezy insisted he was inspired to keep a straight face by some classic artwork. “Back when I was working on ‘Yeezus,’ I saw this book from the 1800s and it was velvet-covered with brass and everything,” Kanye reminisced while giving a speech at the Daily Front Row’s Fashion Los Angeles Awards on Thursday.
“I looked at all these people’s photos and they look so real and their outfits were incredible and they weren’t smiling and people, you know the paparazzi, always come up to me, ‘Why you not smiling?’ and I think, ‘Not smiling makes me smile.'”
That’s pretty meta, sir. Pretty meta indeed.
