Just when you thought reality TV was a lost cause with shows like VH1’s “Bye Felicia” seeing the green light, Oxygen announced their new docuseries “The Misty Copeland Project,” that will follow Misty Copeland — renown ballerina and overall kick-ass Black chick — as she mentors aspiring dancers who are trying to make it big in NYC.

Copeland became the second African-American woman to become a female soloist in the American Ballet Theatre and her inspirational story of perseverance against all odds serves as a guiding light for women who dream of following in her pointed footsteps.

“From the unbelievably inspirational and talented Misty Copeland, to the bold young women experiencing life abroad, the new development slate appeals to a multitude of female viewers,” said Cori Abraham, senior VP development and international at Oxygen Media.

2014 has been an amazing year for Copeland. She became a sponsored athlete for Under Armour and released “Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina” to rave reviews. Copeland is exactly the type of role model our young women need to be watching on TV.

We’re so here for it.
