Between a new gig and a new baby, it has been a huge day for Sherri Shepherd!
Just a month ago, Sherri had announced her exit from “The View.” This followed news of a shocking split from her now-estranged husband Lamar Sally, and they’ve been going through a nasty divorce ever since. It’s been a rough summer for Sherri, so far!
Today, however, there’s word from TMZ.com that the TV personality’s surrogate has just delivered her new son! The baby was born in Pennsylvania, and Lamar was there to welcome him into the world. Sherri, unfortunately, didn’t make it to see the new arrival…not surprising considering all the drama that’s been going on with that.
She’s abdicated maternity because she claims that Lamar tricked her into agreeing to have a child by surrogate. Sherri believes Lamar was secretly plotting to divorce her during the whole process so that he could attempt to collect child support when they broke up.
Coincidently (and a little ironically), Sherri announced today on “The View” that she’s going to star alongside Keke Palmer in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” playing the wicked stepmother! As we reported yesterday, Keke will be playing Cinderella herself!
We would have imagined her in more of the fairy god mother role, but the timing of this particular announcement is good for a chuckle.
While Sherri may have some mixed emotions about the new baby, she’s overjoyed about her new role on Broadway! This is the second high-profile casting for the musical in as many days, and it definitely seems like producers are angling to bring more black people into the theater, but are they going for an all-black cast? We’ll all have to wait and see.
Sherri is set to debut in “Cinderella” on September 9.
