It looks like the saying is true: all good things come to an end.
Angie Martinez shocked the world today by announcing her resignation from New York City’s Hot 97. The popular personality — who has been the radio voice of NYC and the hip hop community for over 20 years — shared the surprising news with a post on Instagram. Along with saying it was one of the hardest decisions she’s ever made, the 43-year-old explained that was time to move on.
“Today I resigned from HOT97. I am grateful to the Emmis family for my time with the company and the immeasurable way that it has shaped my life,” she wrote. “We made history together in so many ways and I will cherish those memories and my friendships forever.”
“This was one of the toughest decisions I’ve ever had to make but ultimately it is time to move on, to grow and to be challenged in new ways,” Angie added. “Saying goodbye is always emotional and bitter sweet but I am extremely excited about the future. Thank you HOT97 and most importantly….the listeners… for an unimaginable journey. Today will be my last show stay tuned…. Love, angie”
Hot 97’s program director Ebro Darden tweeted his goodbyes. “Angie, I love you and gave my life to protect you. This is a great opportunity to extend your brand!! Get that $$,” he posted. “Never be selfish, If you love them, let them leave.”
Word on the street is Angie signed a new contract with rival station Power 105.1 FM! BOSSIP reports she’ll be on air every day now at the local competition and “her contract has been OFFICIALLY signed sealed and delivered.”
