Tracy Morgan remains hospitalized, but in good spirits, following a deadly multi-car crash on the New Jersey Turnpike, which left him and several others in critical condition early Saturday morning. “He’s got a brace on his neck, but he’s smiling,” a source close to the “30 Rock” star told Page Six.

“His family is now with him and he is receiving excellent care,” Morgan’s publicist Lewis Kay said in a statement. She said the comedian has been more responsive today, but sustained multiple injuries including a broken femur, a broken nose and several broken ribs. “His family is tremendously overwhelmed and appreciative of the outpouring of love and support from his fans,” the rep said, adding he’ll most likely remain hospitalized for the next few weeks.

As we reported earlier, a Walmart big-rig slammed into Tracy’s limo bus from behind around 1 a.m, resulting in a six-car pileup with two tractor trailers, two cars and an SUV. “NJSP says the driver of the tractor-trailer failed to observe slow-moving traffic ahead,” said Sgt. Gregory Williams of New Jersey State Police. “At the last minute, he swerved to try and avoid the Mercedes limo bus but struck it from behind, forcing the limo to rotate and overturn.”

According to reports, the accident killed Tracy’s longtime friend and writing partner James “Jimmy Mack” McNair, and injured four others. Prosecutors charged 35-year-old truck driver Kevin Roper with death by auto and four counts of assault by auto. Police told ABC News that Roper was dozing off moments before the chain-reaction collision. He turned himself in Saturday night and bail was set at $50,000.
