This week, we spoke with Wincy Togba and Ray Williams about finding love online and giving the guy with a corny pick-up line a chance.

HER SIDE

The summer of 2012 was a year to remember. I recently broke up with my boyfriend at the time and found out my mother was diagnosed with stage four cancer for the second time. Spending a majority of my time working and caring for my mother, I did not have much of a social life. I decided to join BlackPeopleMeet.com, hoping to find someone I could become friends with first, then possibly having it turn into a serious relationship. Shortly after joining, I received a message from Ray. I glanced at his page (but not the message) and thought he was cute, but did not interact with him. Being so busy with work and my daily responsibilities, I kind of forgot about my BPM account.

It was not until January 2013, when I realized I was still paying for my account, that I decided to log on one last time and check my messages before canceling it. I came across Ray’s message that said, “I have 12 pick-up lines, which one should I use first?” I thought it was the corniest thing ever, but it made me laugh. I gave him my number and told him I was canceling my account. Ray and I talked on the phone 3-4 weeks before we met in person. We had our first date at a jazz restaurant in DC call JoJo’s. I thought it was the perfect first date. When I first saw him, I couldn’t stop smiling! He was tall, dark and handsome, and had the cutest smile ever! I truly believe God brought Ray into my life at the right time. A few weeks after making our relationship official, my mother passed away. Ray has been the most caring and supportive man I have ever been with. During the course of the year, our bond has grown stronger than ever.

THE BIG SURPRISE

We decided to celebrate our one-year anniversary at JoJo’s (where we had our first date). During our dinner course, the lead singer of the jazz band announced we were celebrating our anniversary. He called us to the stage area. While we were walking up, I was fussing with Ray and thinking that this man was going to make us sing karaoke or something. Plus, I was in the middle of chewing my salmon! The lead singer looked at me, asking Ray, “is this your wife?” Ray smiled and said, “no.” He then asked him, “what are you waiting for?” and Ray responded, “matter of fact, you are right.” He pulled a box out of his pocket, got down on one knee and asked those magic words, ”will you be my queen?” Of course, I said YES and got even more excited after seeing my beautiful ring. I can’t wait to be Mrs. Ray Williams in 2015!!!
