Justin Timberlake kicked off the return of “Oprah’s Master Class” by sharing some insight into his super-successful career. He may be one of the biggest pop stars in the world today, but the blue-eyed soul star said he wasn’t always embraced growing up in Memphis.
“I didn’t fit in so much with the Black kids because I was white, plain and simple,” he said. “And I didn’t fit in so much with the White kids because I liked what was so-called ‘Black music,’ but growing up there I always felt like I was different.”
The former *NSYNC boy bander also shared how he found the courage to step out on your own. “It’s one of the best/worst things that I have ever done,” he said of leaving the group to gave him his start. “It was bittersweet. It was hard to say goodbye to that era, but I felt it changing. I felt music changing. And I felt myself changing.”
“To try new things, that makes more sense to me than making a career out of doing the exact same thing over and over and over and over again,” he advised. “I believed in it. I believed in what it made other people do…I only had my instinct, which is a powerful thing.”
