Nicki Minaj and her co-stars in Fox’s The Other Woman landed the top spot at the US box office this weekend. According to reports, the romantic comedy opened with an estimated $24.7 million, kicking Captain America from its three-week run at No. 1.
The comedy stars Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann, and Kate Upton — a girlfriend, wife, and mistress who seek revenge after finding out they are all being betrayed by the same guy. According to Deadline, “the studio’s tracking put this film with an expected weekend gross in the high teens, and it shot right past that. With a 75% female audience, it is also positioned to be strong counter-programming next weekend when the multiplexes will be all about The Amazing Spider-Man 2.”
The film, which took $40 million to create, received a B+ CinemaScore ranking from audiences, but film critics did not agree. Only a mere 25 percent of rankings on Rotten Tomatoes gave the romcom a positive review.
The number two spot went to Captain America 2 with $16 million, followed by Heaven is for Real with $13.8 million, Rio 2 with #13.6 million and Brick Mansions rounded out the top five with $9.6 million.
