Erica Campbell is officially a solo success. Her new album HELP, the first without Mary Mary group mate and sister Tina Campbell, is number on the Billboard Top Gospel and Gospel & Christian (combined) charts this week.

“We are extremely proud of the effort that Erica has put forth thus far and we are looking forward to bigger and greater things for her in the very near future,” said Warryn Campbell, Erica’s husband and CEO of MyBlockInc. “This type of amazing artist only comes along once in a blue moon.”

The album received stellar reviews. The LA Times said Erica “hardly pared down her sound for her first solo album outside Mary Mary.”

But if “Help” sprawls as widely as Mary Mary’s records do — “Nobody Else” even nails the chattering pop-funk of “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin'” — it also offers a newly personal look at Campbell’s life, with songs about her marriage and her father in addition to the expected celebrations of God’s love.

“I been in the fire so long I can’t get burned no more,” she sings in the pleading title track, yet that’s not what this consistently vivid music suggests. On “Help” Campbell is always open to more feeling.

In related good news, the other half of the gospel music singing duo is adding author to her resume. Tina, who learned of her husband’s infidelities last year, is gearing up to release a book of prayers that helped her through.

“Tina’s book is coming. It is untitled but it chronicles the prayers she wrote and how she found herself, found the new her in the Bible,” Erica revealed in a recent interview with The Christian Post. “You grow up in church but you look at it through different eyes when you go through. And she has written a book that will be amazing I’m sure it will encourage women.”

Don’t miss Erica’s performance of her Grammy-nominated first single “A Little More Jesus” on BET’s Celebration of Gospel Sunday night at 8p/7c.
