Alfre Woodard is taking over the Oval Office in Katherine Heigl’s new political drama “State of Affairs.”

The Oscar and Emmy nominee was cast to play President Roberta Payton in the NBC pilot, which The Hollywood Reporter described as “Scandal meets “The West Wing.”

“The drama revolves around a maverick CIA officer (Katherine Heigl) who was plucked from the field to become the president’s daily briefer, assuming responsibility for targeting America’s most critical threats while navigating the unique lifestyle that comes with such a high-powered job,” the site reports.

Woodard, who also starred in the Academy Award-winning film 12 Years A Slave, is just one of many African-American actors leading TV pilots this season. Other leading stars of color include Viola Davis, Romany Malco, Terrence Howard, Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer and Jada Pinkett Smith. Let’s hope they all get picked up!
