3. Go On That Cultural Date To The Smithsonian Or Statue Of Liberty

About 90 percent of the museums’ 6,400 workers will be temporarily unemployed, with all museums and the zoo to be closed. Don’t worry, the animals will still get fed, but you and your boo won’t be around to marvel at their glorious wonder.

4. Ship Your Over-Active 2-Year-Old Off To Learn Before It’s Time For Kindergarten

The government shutdown has caused as many as 19,000 children to lose access to Head Start, according to the National Head Start Association. NHSA helps at-risk children reach their full potential and many mothers use the service as an extra tool for their children’s future success. But that level of hope for a brighter future for your children may be lowered. Just over a million children are enrolled in Head Start programs across the country. While most programs can run off their existing grants, no new grants will be made.

5. Vacation In Southern California

If you wanted to put those infamous lyrics from Tony! Toni! Toné! to the test–you know the song, “It never rains in Southern California”–now would not be the time to do so. The Federal Aviation Administration’s air traffic controllers will continue to work during the government shutdown, but more than 110 safety inspectors and other staff will be furloughed at airports across Southern California. That means there’s no one out there inspecting our skies and making sure they are friendly enough for flying. You should cancel that vacation, girl. About 20 inspectors from the Los Angeles International Airport, 35 to 40 at Van Nuys Airport, 21 to 26 at Long Beach Airport, 20 at San Diego International Airport  and 15 to 20 in Riverside, according to figures from the FAA and Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, are all furloughed.

6. Try New & Exciting Dishes On A Date

Many federal employees in charge of inspecting our food have been suspended from work without pay. I’d say this isn’t the time to be daring on a date and try that new Mongolian spot you’ve been eyeing until the Food Safety and Inspection Service is back to work.

Oh and girl, don’t worry about your latest shoe order coming in from Zappos. The post office is still open for business, so online shop to your heart’s desire!
