It’s said that diamonds are a girl’s best friend, so when I got the opportunity to try the entire Redken Diamond Oil family of products, I was thrilled to have found a gem in the bunch – Diamond Oil Shatterproof Shine Intense ($40, ulta.com) for coarse and distressed hair types.

One of the biggest fears of women with coarse hair is breakage. Because coarse hair is porous, it’s important that each strand be moisturized 24-7, be it from the styling stage as in a deep conditioner to daily maintenance as in Diamond Oil.

I like Diamond Oil because it’s a silicone-free hair oil that strengthens and reinforces each hair strand from the inside out. Each application coats your strands with natural hair oils that aren’t overpowering in fragrance (including olive, jojoba, coconut and sunflower seed oils) that protect your hair from constant brushing and styling–one of the cause of hair breakage.

Other ingredients include coriander oil, which envelopes and smooths each strand, camelina oil, to reinforce shine, and apricot oil to condition from the inside out.

This product is one of my personal go-to’s because when I use it on my damp hair before styling. I notice a beautiful sheen when it’s dry.

The only con I could find was the blasted dropper you use to dispense the product onto your hand. While I may not be a Mensa member, I couldn’t get more than quarter-size of product into the dispenser no matter how hard I pressed the button on top. So, for now, I’ll be unscrewing the top and pouring the product directly into my hand.

Thumbs up Redken.
