Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice is the 1st Female President of Morehouse School of Medicine

Dr. Valerie Montgomery Rice, the Dean and Executive Vice President of the Morehouse School of Medicine is now the first African-American woman to lead a free-standing medical school after she was named the president of Morehouse School of Medicine.

The Harvard-educated obstetrician and gynecologist is a native of Macon, Georgia, which is where she received her undergraduate degree–Georgia Institute of Technology. After attending Harvard Medical School, training at Emory University in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Rice completed her fellowship at Hutzel Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.

When you consider the under-representation of black women in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, Montgomery’s selection is a remarkable accomplishment.
