The mother of Grammy Award-winning singer Bruno Mars died unexpectedly, yesterday.

According to the Associated Press, Bernadette Hernandez, 55, suffered a brain aneurysm and passed away at Queens Medical Center in her hometown of Honolulu, Hawaii.

As a hula dancer and singer, Hernandez introduced her son to music at an early age. Today, Bruno is one of pop’s top artist with songs like “When I Was Your Man,” “Nothin’ on You,” “Grenade” and “Just the Way You Are” all hitting the number one spot on the charts.

No further information has been given, and the 27-year-old singer has yet to release a statement on his loss.
