One man’s trash is another man’s treasure, just as one person’s favorite news story is another person’s most-dreaded, can-we-please-talk-about-something-else subject.

Don’t get me wrong, as an entertainment journalist I enjoy my daily dose of celebrity gossip. Please keep the Chris Brown-Rihanna saga and Kanye West temper tantrum stories coming. But when it comes to why the original Aunt Vivian left the cast of  “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” over 20 years ago, or if Destiny’s Child is going to have yet another reunion, it’s like beating a dead horse. While some stories are entertaining and add value to our lives, others have simply past the exit of relevance — #done #movingforward #letitgo #next.

Take a look at seven news stories that are either overrated or over-reported below.

1. Nicki Minaj & Mariah Carey’s “American Idol” Feud

Now that season 12 of the singing-competion show is over, hopefully we won’t have to hear about the catty and unnecessary feud between Nicki and Mariah. To see two successful Black women fighting each week on a nationally-syndicated program made me cringe each and every time.

2. Will Destiny’s Child another reunion?

Beyonce, Kelly and Michelle had a lot of success as a group, and I’m sure they’ll reunite when the time is right. But, asking each lady about the future of Destiny’s Child  as they promote their individual projects just seems wrong. Let’s give the ladies more time to shine on their own. Each member of the trio is talented in their own right and deserves to fulfill their personal career goals. The SuperBowl wasn’t enough?

3. Kim Kardashian’s Pregnancy Weight Gain

She’s pregnant; it’s natural to gain weight. Everyone should just leave Kim’s body alone (*no pun intended). Making her  pregnancy weight gain headline news just seems cruel and insensitive.

4. Aunt Viv From “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” On Why She Left The Show Ages Ago

Dear news outlets that keep reporting about Janet Hubert’s departure from the show,

She left over 20 years ago. Let it go. We have.

5. Will & Jada’s Open Relationship

Mr. and Mrs. Smith have been married for over 15 years. Why is everyone still so obsessed about the state of their relationship? Will and Jada have been very honest about their union and practices from day one, so the constant questions about whether or not they have an “open marriage” are just old.

6. Are HBCUs Still Relevant

I admit, as a HBCU graduate, I may be a bit bias on this subject. But, seeing how there are over 100 historically black universities and colleges that are still operating and graduating phenomenal students, isn’t the answer obvious? I’m sure the President and First Lady wouldn’t speck at HBCU commencement ceremonies every year for nothing.

7. Zoe Saldana’s Role As Nina Simone In The Upcoming Biopic

The film has yet to hit theaters, yet everyone has so much to say about why Zoe should or shouldn’t be playing in the role. Let’s save all the commentary and opinion pieces until after the film’s release.

As long as Zoe stops committing on race relations and just focuses on acting, she should be fine.
