Behind Kelly Rowland‘s pretty smile and waterproof makeup are tear stains. Like many women, Rowland suffered by an abusive lover. “Meanwhile this n***a putting his hands on me,” she sings on the Dream-penned track. Sheltered by Beyonce’s shadow, Rowland was able to hide her scars.
“Dirty Laundry” is an all-too common tale of an out-of-control love.Like most cases of domestic violence, her abuser turned her against her family and friends, even Beyonce. “No one loves you but me, not ya momma, not ya daddy, not even Bey,” he told her. It is the most vulnerable we’ve ever seen Rowland. And frankly, it is what her music has been missing. This just joined Tamar Braxton’s “Love & War” as one of my favorite songs this year!
The single, which aired this morning on Power 105.1, is featured on her forthcoming album “Talk A Good Game” set for release on June 18th.
