Who is Alice Russell?

Alice Russell is a soul singer-songwriter who hails from Suffolk, England and was born into a musical family. Russell is the daughter of an organist and at 9 years old, started singing in choirs and taking cello lessons.

It wasn’t until 1994, when she began to take her music seriously. Russell moved to Brighton, England, just an hour outside of  London, to study music.  It was there she became heavily influenced in gospel music.

Russell, who’s voice bears a an erie resemblance to the late Amy Winehouse, released her first album, “My Favourite Letters” in 2005 on Tru Thoughts Records to warm reviews. The following year, she debuted her first live album “Alice Russell-Live In Paris” which helped silence any critics who believed she was just a studio sensation.

The chanteuse, who cites Stevie Wonder, Jill Scott, Chaka Khan and Minnie Ripperton, as her musical influences is all of 5’1, blows people away with with her powerful pipes!
