Meeting a potential mate is tough, depending on who you ask. That’s why Coca-Cola is trying to make that fete a bit easier with their new Icebreaker campaign. The folks with all the power at Coca-Cola have tried a new experiment of putting a tighter cap on their bottles, forcing patrons, especially women (who usually have less upper body strength than men) to ask a handsome stranger with a strong hand to help her out–hence, Icebreaker.

Evidently, it’s super hard to meet a mate in China, which is why they have the Marriage Market where parents look for mates for their kids. Coca-Cola placed a vending machine with the hard-to-unscrew caps in the middle of the most romantic park in Shanghai. What happens next is the hopeful beginning of several love stories.

I love this idea and maybe one day we could see something like this in the States. I’m not at all offended by the connotation that women have a tougher time opening bottles than men. This is one of those typically true stereotypes. The folks over at Jezebel may find this commercial adorable, but they are none too pleased with what the commercial connotes–a weak-handed woman who needs a man.
